Kat Matthews is a portrait and concert photographer. She is originally from Charleston, South Carolina but moved up to the upstate where she graduated from Anderson University with a bachelors in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography. While at Anderson she has served as a gallery assistant in Vandiver gallery and helped install exhibitions and display work. She has had an internship with the art collective Zero Space Collective where she curated their website. Her work focuses on capturing all different kinds of emotion through color and gesture in order to make the audience question what they are seeing and feeling. Her portraiture work is designed to look a bit strange through interesting poses and gestures, lighting, and striking colors. She strives to make an image “worth stopping for” as her goal is always to make the viewer think about what they are seeing and ponder it rather than just enjoying a pretty sight. Her work reflects her desire to create and strive interest in images that feel more like a moment in time than a stage image.
