Artist Statement

Every moment in time has a feeling attached to it. When someone reflects back on their past there is always a sensation that encapsulates the memory. Even now and the future, there is nothing that can happen that is not attached to an emotion. Emptiness and numbness are still emotions too even if there is a lack of feeling.  No matter what photograph you or I look at, we will always feel something as we view it whether we comprehend that we are or not. Emotion is one thing that will never be stripped from people. One of the most beautiful things in life is the emotions we experience as humans and it is so fascinating to me that we are capable of all these sentiments; and it is something we share with every other person no matter how many differences between us exist. I want people to look at my work and feel something strong enough that they can explain the feeling that is evoked in them.

My favorite way to capture emotion is through people. I am passionate about portraiture and showcasing images that make emotions rise in the viewer. I want my work to not just create one feeling but each image to encapsulate a new feeling; from just as simple as joy and love all the way to uncommon feelings such as sonder, the feeling where you realize everyone around you has their own individual life that only they will experience.

One of the deepest ways for people to connect is through music. I strive to make images that embrace this bond that occur at concerts and events. No performance exists without emotion and I want the crowd to understand the euphoric feeling of hearing your favorite melody live and being surrounded by a community of people who share your same passion. Every image has a reason for being taken and I want my photography to express all the feelings of life and let each viewer feel seen in one part or another of my work.
